From state-of-the-art performing arts facilities to new IT systems, the Proposition S and Z Bond programs for the San Diego Unified School District are delivering needed updates and new possibilities to students and their communities.
Harris’ array of services includes managing new construction, remodeling, modernization and demolition. New classroom buildings, a 20,600-square-foot performing arts center, upgraded food service facilities, an asphalt track and path of travel improvements are just some of the projects Harris is bringing to life through the Proposition S and Z Bond programs.
The Harris team was involved with the construction or improvement of the following schools using the design-bid-build delivery method:
- Point Loma High School
- Knox Middle School
- Creative, Performing & Media Arts School
- Language Academy
- Encanto Elementary
- Hamilton Elementary
- University City High School
Core Elements
The $5.0 billion total Bond programs include:
- New high-efficiency HVAC systems for 2,000 new and existing classrooms
- ADA upgrades
- Modernizations to comply with Title 24 accessibility standards and fire codes
- Electrical system and lighting upgrades
- Low voltage technology upgrades
- Replacement of portable classrooms with new permanent classroom buildings
- 53 new synthetic turf fields and all-weather tracks
Beyond the Blueprints
To keep this multi-faceted project on track over a 18- to 20-year timeline, Harris is providing staff augmentation in diverse areas of capital construction, including:
- Project manager for a major district-wide IT design and implementation
- Design management for district architects
- Labor compliance specialists to support the district's Project Stabilization Agreement
- Inspector of record on-site (for projects where Harris did not serve as the construction manager)
- Hazardous material inspectors to assist the district
- Outreach support and management of outreach subconsultants
- Move management services
- Administrative support
